IQ research shows what areas IQ test can measure

 

 

This is just an example of how obsessed our society is to IQ score, and in a broader meaning, to every ability measurement tests that available. That bring a question to the table that, is IQ test really could foreseen and measure people level of achievement in there life? To some extend, It is indeed true, in a way that it can measure a person’s cognitive ability — but specifically their ability to solve simple and theoretical problems.

Many test that you can find in the internet contain question types that teach test-takers new information in a simple format and see how well they retain that information.

While this works well for simple information like recalling word lists and retelling simple stories, these are just one of many tasks that human can perform in there everyday life and job. It certainly won’t tell you anything about your creativity, self awareness or your improtant life experience,...
And, for example, in business environment, you need to solve actual, practical problem that require you to be able to identify problems,seek out information to solve it, gather various acceptable solutions, evaluate them in complexity  context and make difficult decisions. Certainly no IQ test have been able to measure that.
 
In one of his IQ research paper, Psychologist Joel Schneider put it: “ Our society at this time in history values the ability to make generalizations from incomplete data and to deduce new information from abstract rules. "If we think of IQ as an estimate of pure potential, including acquired knowledge tests in IQ is a very bad idea".

We have pretty good tests that estimate various kinds of raw cognitive power (e.g., working memory tests and processing speed tests). We have reasonably good tests of reasoning ability that do not require specific content knowledge. However, if we think of IQ as prediction devices, there is no better predictor of future learning than past learning. Furthermore, past learning does not just predict future learning—it often enables it.

Although IQ test still is the most widely used test in the world to determine job performance and academic achievement. IQ isn’t destiny, it is one factor among many that predict this outcome.It’s is a measurement with some weaknesses and limitations. Certainly, high IQ is nice to have, and there is abundant evidence that it is substantially correlated with creative productivity. But then again, many people with high IQ fail to create much of anything and many people with moderate intellect achieve lasting greatness.
